On this day 14 years ago, Sir Alf Ramsey died at his home in Ipswich. He had been suffering from Alzheimer’s disease for many years.
He took Ipswich Town Football Club from the Third Division to become champions of the Football League in 1962 and, of course, in 1966 he became the only manager of the England national side to win the World Cup.
He was one of the greatest ever managers in English football – and he was ours.
RIP, Alf.
